Scattered around organizations, on users’ local machines or on network files shares, PST files are a real problem for administrators. These PST files are seldom backed up, there is no control over the content and, in the event of a legal action, there is little or no chance of effective discovery of the data they contain.
Archive One provides complete PST file management functions that can discover, report, archive, manage and migrate PST files into Microsoft Exchange, irrespective of whether they are located on users’ local machines, laptops or network file shares. The whole process is completed in an intelligent manner that provides full control to the administrator and removes the risk of exceeding mailbox quotas or flooding network bandwidth.
How it works:
The full power of Archive One’s Email Data Management functionality can be brought to bear on the contents of PST files. Archive One checks regularly to determine if PST files are in use. It can carry out forensic level examination of the content of the PST files it finds and, subsequently, perform various intelligent processing actions upon the discovered data.
Archive One’s administration console displays detailed information to administrators about each PST file, its file name and path, size, the associated mailbox, mailbox size, quotas and more. It provides all the information required to make an intelligent decision about the best way to process the PST file, and to know if, at its current size, it can be migrated without impinging on network or Microsoft Exchange operations.
When a detailed Intelligent Search and Action based policy has been defined, targeted PSTs files are processed automatically. If the action chosen was to ‘Archive’ then the original data items in the PST files are replaced with shortcut link messages that enable users to maintain real time access to the original data simply by double-clicking the shortcut link. Furthermore, if the ‘finalize’ option was selected then the contents of the PST file are completely migrated into the user’s mailbox with the original hierarchy intact
At all times, the administrator has access to the advanced tuning methods that maintain optimal system and network performance.
