C2C Combats Security Breaches in Email access

2nd October 2006

Archive One Access Security Manager Audits and Manages Access Rights to Prevent Illegitimate Email Access

In response to organizations’ needs to control the security of mailbox infrastructure, C2C has added Access Security Manager to its award-winning Archive One suite.  With more than 40 percent of companies’ employees leaving, joining or changing roles each year, email permissions can become difficult to control.  Access Security Manager enables administrators to audit and manage email access rights to prevent illegitimate or fraudulent access to mailboxes or public folders within a Microsoft Exchange system.

Access Security Manager assures administrators that they are granting the correct access to the email system, preventing malicious misuse of confidential email information or unintentional access to data.  Mistakes in and abuse of rights allocation that result in a breach of email integrity could be carried forward into a compliance archive with resultant legal implications.

“In today’s heavily regulated IT environments, organizations are forced to examine security measures carefully to ensure that employee rights to receive, send and access emails are authentic,” said Dave Hunt, C2C’s CEO.  “Access Security Manager adds important integrity verifications and so it enhances any email system or archive solution, not just Archive One.”

Access Security Manager evolved from C2C’s Exchange Security Risk Auditor (ESRA) tool, which is already in use as a quick response security solution in many organizations world wide, including Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP, a law firm based in Denver, Colorado.

According to Diana Hromish, System-Operations Administrator, Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP, “Archive One Access Security Manager offers reassurance that our email system correctly maintains the intended permissions to mailboxes, and confidence that users have access only to specified data and calendaring.”  Hromish explains, “I have found it efficient for generating and running reports, allowing us to quickly verify, control and secure the exact levels of access that email users have.  It has enabled us to easily track down and remove thousands of ‘zombie’ accounts that remained over time, as well as the ability to correctly deal with remnant permissions to folders as staff assignments change.”

Archive One Access Security Manager is a standalone application that can be installed on any Windows XP, 2000 or 2003 system that has Outlook installed on it.  It also supports Exchange 2003, 2000 and 5.5.
