C2C and Pioneer Partner to Enhance email Archiving and Meet Regulatory Compliance on Microsoft Exchange Platforms

April 5th, 2004

C2C Systems and Pioneer Multimedia Europe today announce a technology partnership to ensure the seamless compatibility of Pioneer's DVD jukebox range with C2C's Microsoft Exchange email archiving system. The cooperation is confirmed as organizations embrace the importance of email archiving and management as the volume of email data continues to grow and it is increasingly recognised as official documentation.

Alongside the exponential increase in email data volumes, corporate governance issues are creating the expectation that companies are able to retain and recall email correspondence. In addition, legislation like the forthcoming Basel II in the banking sector and the UK's Companies Act is expected to enforce the need to archive email. Faced with these demands, organisations are increasingly turning to DVD jukeboxes - like Pioneer's DRM-7000 - to support archiving solutions that provide high capacity, flexible and secure alternatives to tape, HDD and MO-based systems. Optical jukeboxes also offer the important ability to protect critical data by using write once (WORM) DVD-R media and information can be stored without significant degradation for more than 30 years.

To support the intelligent storage, cataloguing and accessing of email data on its DVD-R jukeboxes, Pioneer has been working with email archiving specialist C2C to test compatibility with its Archive One email software. Archive One enables organisations to enforce internal email policies and to meet external regulatory expectations. The product can link directly to Pioneer's DVD jukeboxes or into storage management solutions like CA BrightStor ARCserve, HP OpenView and QStar to integrate email into an overall archiving strategy.
"Companies need to assess the whole archiving solution; not only how they manage email so it is highly secure and retrievable but also on what sort of media it should be archived. Compatibility testing between Archive One and Pioneer's jukeboxes has shown that the two products seamlessly provide high volume storage together with the data management functions that meet the data archiving and regulatory demands of our customers," observes Erik Haugen, European sales manager, Industrial Systems, Pioneer Europe.

Dave Hunt, CEO of C2C comments, "We are pleased to partner with an industry leader like Pioneer to help organisations develop their email archiving strategy. It's important for our customers to see Archive One integrate with a reputable storage architecture so they can be assured that their archived email is secure for the long term."
As well as on-going compatibility testing, Pioneer and C2C will be offering marketing support in their respective sales channels.

Pioneer's DVD JukeBox range
Pioneer's DVD jukebox range is spearheaded by the DRM-7000 (720 disc library) and DRM-3000 (320 disc library). The modular solutions support a wide range of flexibility. Multiple formats like CD-ROM, CD-R, DVD-ROM, DVD-R discs and drives can be used together and the system can store up to 6.3 TeraBytes of information. Network compatibility is secured through a SCSI-2 or LVD connection to all major networks such as Windows NT, 2000, XP, UNIX and Linux.

Archive One
C2C's Archive One provides policy, compliance and capacity driven email archiving solutions for Microsoft Exchange. Its low cost of ownership, easily installed and managed applications integrate with existing Exchange and storage infrastructures to provide email archiving for medium to large organizations.
