PowerFile’s Permanent Storage Appliance™ is a network-attached data storage system designed for the specific archiving requirements of high-value fixed content. The Permanent Storage Appliance is an alternative to current data-storage solutions that are designed for storing either dynamic content or backup data, but not for valuable information meant to be kept in its original form and easily accessible.

The underlying premise is that fixed content has different storage requirements than dynamic content, which by definition is constantly changing. Fixed content is also different from backup data, which only exists as a possible means of retrieving primary data in the unfortunate event of a system failure.

The Permanent Storage Appliance promises easy-access archiving of digital assets, with greater durability and cost efficiency than current solutions. Target customers are midsize-to-large organizations that need to preserve large amounts of important data in an unalterable form for long periods of time, or permanently, often in response to regulatory pressures and also for long-term reference and analysis.

Available as complete, prepackaged solutions, the Permanent Storage Appliance consists of:

• Network-attached caching server
• Library management software
• Multi-drive carousel with DVD libraries

The Permanent Storage Appliance offers 17TB of storage capacity, available in 1.7TB increments, and removable Write Once Ready Many (WORM) media. An entire system can be set up in less than one hour. Software, already built into the system, offers extensive file management features such as the ability to combine multiple libraries into a single volume.
