MaX Compression Can Reduce Storage Costs of E-mail

June 25th, 2004

In times of expensive storage, autozipping email can help reduce costs. C2C Systems offers MaX Compression, a product that automatically and invisibly zips and unzips email attachments sent/received, to companies spending too much money on storage management.

"Storage volume of email and associated costs has become a problem for large multinational organizations. Storage management expenses typically account for two-thirds of total data center costs," says Dave Hunt, CEO of C2C. "A global courier company recently purchased over 70,000 seats of MaX Compression to aid storage management of their email."

Storage managers, concerned about the rising costs of data storage, are turning to
MaX Compression to reduce the amount of space needed by compressing (zipping) attachments. Automation of zipping processes can happen in the archive, at the desktop, in mailboxes or even at the SMTP gateway to reduce system overheads at enterprise level. Wherever email travels or is stored across the Enterprise, it is compressed to its most efficient size for resource usage. MaX Compression has been shown to reduce server storage requirements by 40 to 55 percent. It also reduces email traffic by an average 40 percent across Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003.

Michael Cushard, a systems engineer at Mobility Electronics, knew that at 12,000 emails a day, he'd have to keep a close eye on mailbox management. "Mobility Electronics has about 45 servers and 150 users/mailboxes, and IT wished to curb our Exchange Information Store growth before it got out of control," says Cushard. "MaX Compression was the natural choice for the task. In just a few weeks, MaX Compression saved about 30GB in space."

To find out how much you are spending on email storage, C2C Systems offers a compression savings calculator.
